At some point, everything becomes “old meme”
I’m sure you’ve seen the following before:
“First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.” – by Pastor Martin Niemöller
Well I’ve seen this used in support of a number of worthy causes.
But recently I got to see this used by a pornography supporter who was opposed to a law requiring those who show porn on the internet to simply keep documentation that their models are not children. And they paraphrased it, “First they came for the pornographers…”
I am particularly unsympathetic to this type of deceitful hyperbole, having just today been subjected to actual, deliberate censorship for having dared to screw with men’s porn links (although I don’t feel like discussing what form this censorship took, as is my perogative.) And I”ve said it before but apparently I can’t say it enough:
IT IS FEMINISTS WHO ARE SILENCED, NOT THOSE WHO ABUSE, ENSLAVE, AND SELL WOMEN’S BODIES.
So spare me the pity party for the poor, poor pornographers. kthxbye
